(Florida) – State Health Officials reported that seven people was infected due to a deadly bacteria that dwells in the seawater in the beaches of Florida. Along with the seven people, two people are claimed to be dead from this infectious bacteria. The officials are now warning all beach-goers to be be safe and stay alert as this bacteria which is called Vibrio vulnificus can ruin your summer.
“People can get infected with Vibrio vulnificus when they eat raw shellfish,” revealed by Florida Health Department spokesperson Mara Burger. “Since it is naturally found in warm marine waters, people with open wounds can be exposed to Vibrio vulnificus through direct contact with seawater.” This bacteria can also be transmitted through having meals, if the meal you are eating has been contaminated with this bacteria then it can instantly show symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea.
If the bacteria enters your body through an open wound then its flesh-eating ability could cause your skin to breakdown and the infections would also force it towards deadly ulcers.
It has been reported that people with sound and good health only witness slight and bearable symptoms while people who have been facing many complications due to weakened immune system would have to bear severe and deadly complications. Especially, the people with chronic liver disease would be at higher risk to face the painful symptoms of this infection. The bacterium is powerful enough to invade your bloodstream and would make you ill by causing you to face severe chills, high fever, septic shock, blistering skin wounds; at last resulting in death.
Almost 32 cases of Vibrio vulnificus were reported in Florida, previous year. According to the CDCP (Centres for Disease Control and Prevention), these infections occur on a seasonal basis and are at their extreme during the months of May and October.
In order to avoid the infection, doctors strongly recommend not entering the sea water if you possess any sort of open wound or deep cut.
