India and Pakistan nuclear war would kill 21 million people and destroy the ozone and agriculture worldwide
If India and Pakistan fought a war detonating 100 nuclear warheads (around half of their combined arsenal), each equivalent to a 15-kiloton Hiroshima bomb, more than 21 million people will be directly killed, about half the world’s protective ozone layer would be destroyed, and a “nuclear winter” would cripple the monsoons and agriculture worldwide. As the Indian Army considers armed options, and a member of Parliament (MP) of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) urges a nuclear attack, these projections, made by researchers from three US universities in 2007, are a reminder of the costs of nuclear war. ^

Riyadh Warns Washington of ‘Serious Unintended Consequences’ of New 9/11 Law
The Saudi government had remained silent until Thursday afternoon, following votes by the Senate and House of Representatives to overwhelmingly shoot down a presidential veto on the “Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act,” or JASTA, on Wednesday. While JASTA applies to any act of terrorism on US soil, the primary focus has been on Saudi involvement in the 9/11 attacks. "The erosion of sovereign immunity will have a negative impact on all nations, including the United States," Riyadh said in a statement. The kingdom further stated that it hopes Congress will work "to avoid the serious unintended consequences that may ensue." The statement did not include specific threats, retaliation, or what the consequences would be.

JASTA will allow for victims and the families of the 2001 attacks to sue the Saudi government. Riyadh has denied funding the terrorists who attacked the World Center and killed nearly 3,000 people, but 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi Arabian nationals. Leading up to the JASTA vote, the Saudi government waged a massive lobbying effort, arguing that the bill would undermine sovereign immunity. Following the passing, they remained silent until the following day. On Thursday, after the veto was overridden, the Saudi riyal fell against the dollar. “This bill reflects an anti-Saudi campaign. It is time to see less of America in our midst,” Abdulkhaleq Abdulla, a political scientist in the United Arab Emirates told Reuters. ^

Tropical Storm Matthew forms, could be a hurricane by Friday
Tropical Storm Matthew formed in the Atlantic Ocean just east of the Caribbean Sea on Wednesday morning and was heading west. The storm is expected to meet hurricane-friendly conditions in the Caribbean, where it will strengthen and likely turn to the north. By Friday, it could be a hurricane, the National Hurricane Center said in its 5 p.m. Wednesday advisory.

Matthew is expected to travel west as a strong tropical storm through the Caribbean Sea, where it's expected to meet conditions — warm water, low wind shear — that would help it intensify into a Category 1 hurricane by late Thursday or Friday. The storm was then expected to make a turn to the north. Although forecasting models show some variation as to where that turn will occur, and how sharp it will be, the National Hurricane Center's 5-day forecast cone shows Matthew approaching Jamaica by 8 a.m. Monday. It was possible that the hurricane could strengthen to a Category 2 storm by Sunday or Monday. ^

“MAIN CORE” You Are On The List ! A List Of Millions Of Americans That Will Be Subject To Detention During Martial Law
Are you one of the millions of Americans that have been designated a threat to national security by the U.S. government? Will you be subject to detention when martial law is imposed during a major national emergency? As you will see below, there is actually a list that contains the names of at least 8 million Americans known as Main Core that the U.S. intelligence community has been compiling since the 1980s.

A recent article on Washington’s Blog quoted a couple of old magazine articles that mentioned this program, and I was intrigued because I didn’t know what it was. So I decided to look into Main Core, and what I found out was absolutely stunning – especially in light of what Edward Snowden has just revealed to the world. It turns out that the U.S. government is not just gathering information on all of us. The truth is that the U.S. government has used this information to create a list of threats to national security that the government would potentially watch, question or even detain during a national crisis. If you have ever been publicly critical of the government, there is a very good chance that you are on that list. ^

Pope says journalism based on fear-mongering, gossip is form of 'terrorism'
Journalism based on gossip or rumors is a form of "terrorism" and media that stereotype entire populations or foment fear of migrants are acting destructively, Pope Francis said on Thursday. Francis, who made his comments in an address to leaders of Italy's national journalists' guild, said reporters had to go the extra mile to seek the truth, particularly in an age of round-the-clock news coverage. Spreading rumors is an example of "terrorism, of how you can kill a person with your tongue", he said. "This is even more true for journalists because their voice can reach everyone and this is a very powerful weapon."

In Italy, a number of newspapers are highly politicized and are regularly used to discredit those with differing political views, sometimes reporting unsubstantiated rumors about their private lives. ^

According to the National Civil Defense Institute, the fire broke out on September 10 in an indigenous community called Pitsiquia, in the heart of Peruvian Amazon, and is still not under control. Since then, the fires destroyed more than 20 000 hectares (49 400 acres / 200 km2 / 77 mi2) of forest and more than 200 hectares (494 acres) of farmland in the Junin region. This region is known for its isolation, dense rainforest and tropical crops, and authorities are worried it could wreak chaos on a major indigenous reserve, home to native communities that have limited contact with the outside world, and spread to the Otishi National Park nearby. ^
