A series of powerful earthquakes which struck Asia and South America this month could be followed by a 'mega' quake in the near future, a scientist has claimed.

This month could prove to be the deadliest month for quakes since March 2011, when a 9.0 struck Japan, killing at least 20,000 people, causing a massive tsunami, landslides and widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure.
Massive quakes this month have already killed hundreds in Japan and Ecuador.

But the big question being asked by many experts is when will the big one hit the west coast of the US?
The last time a major quake struck California was way back in March, 2014 when a M 6.8 - Struck 78km WNW of Ferndale.
